One of the nicer towns in the dismal North East is Capewick. You may know it from the history books or if you're from the tourism board, you might know it from the award you gave the town a while back. Anyway I can't remember. There are plenty of nice things about Capewick. The castle is very enjoyable and there are good views. A few nice places to eat. Looks great in the Winter etc. etc. Beach etc.
